It often starts off harmlessly. Maybe with that friend, the cool one? The one who has been telling you about this comedian guy who does great stuff. He pops open
YouTube and decides to show you a video. Being a cool guy, he chooses
a video, nice and short, 1 maybe 2 minutes tops.
And then that
other friend comes along... He’s also seen an amazing
video on youtube last week and “it’s even better”. Now, from the 20
minutes it takes him to find the video, you know you are in for a shit time… At this point, you try to back out, “don’t
worry mate, it’s all good if you can’t find it” – a nice but clear message. He persists. You fold.
He finally finds
it – turns out it was the first one he clicked on. And now, the true nightmare
begins. The video starts - the first few funny moments. Between two over-exaggerated
laughs, your friend keeps looking at you, staring, scrutinising your every
move and facial expression. This intense gaze, which you pretend to ignore,
is putting the pressure on. “Am I reacting to this right? Was this the funny
bit? How long has this video been going on for?”
7 minutes. It’s
finally over. Although you didn’t manage to recognise the funny moments, you
admit that “yeah, it was sick mate”, for fear that he might want you to see it
again if you say otherwise.
If you too have
a friend like that, we share your frustration. We would suggest keeping him
away from any device with an internet connection but that might seem somewhat
drastic. Plus if you keep avoiding him, who will show you that video of a man cooking
mushrooms while wearing a horse mask?
(By the way that’s an actual video, you'll find the link below – although we don't recommend you show it to any of your friends)Written by: Anonymous
